Subject:Audio Latency Problems ...

Well, I'm sure this issue has likely been beaten to death, but I did not find a direct answer to my dilemma by searching thru past threads ... so here goes.

I'm in my 30-day trial of AMS 7 (been using ver 6 for a of couple yrs). In ver 7 I'm experiencing terrible recording delay problems; when I record an audio track and then begin recording a second or third track, the timing is badly delayed. I suspect it’s linked to my audio driver setup and the fact that it doesn’t appear that I’ve got ASIO drivers in play.

I have an “SB Audigy 2 ZS” soundcard installed, but when I try to select “Creative ASIO” or “SB Audigy 2 ZS ASIO (CC80)” as my “Audio Device Type”, I get an error msg stating, “The device SB Audigy 2 ZS ASIO does not support the current sample rate or bit depth”. (??)

For some reason I can only select “Microsoft Sound Mapper” as an “Audio Device Type” in the “Audio Devices” preferences page. I’m sure this is an easy fix but I’m stumped.

I’d appreciate any insight into how I might resolve this issue.

You should use the ASIO drivers.

The Creative Audigy hardware does not natively support any other sample rate than 48 kHz. Windows does a sample rate conversion on the fly to allow other sample rates.

So, set your default project settings to use 48 kHz, and your latency issues will be gone.

Thx Peter,

That solved it.

It's odd though ... I've been demo-ing 'Tracktion 3' and 'Reaper' as well (with the same soundcard), and my sample rate is set for 44kHz in those apps and I have no latency problems.
