Subject:MIDI clock to multiple external synths in Acid Pro

I have a Motu midi express 128 (this shows as 8 midi devices) and an M-Audio midisport 2x2 connected to various synths, each on their own midi device.

Does anyone have an idea as to how I send MIDI clock to all synths simultaneously with Acid Pro 6d?

Bump.

I figured from the silence that this can not be done and so very reluctantly I have been shopping for another sequencer. Is there any hope for the next version Sony?

I would tell you, but I'm under an NDA and I am forbidden to do so.

Can you tell me now?

ACID cannot send MIDI time clock to multiple ports. ACID 7 does not have this capability either.

Is there a workflow you have that requires this where a MIDI Thru cable would not solve it?

The MOTU midi express 128 is unfortunately just a very low cost 8 by 8 midi interface with little functionality.
I used to own one, got rid of it and purchased a midi express XT.
It was night and day.

With the XT, through ClockWorks you can assign Midi Clock to as many output ports as you wish.

It also does much, much more.
Well worth replacing your 128 with the XT just for a little more money.

Cheers

Anthony, thanks for the reply. I had thought of buying the XT version but it would only be a partial work-around. I would still be left with a Nord modular, which requires two midi devices, connected to a midisport.

Peter, I may be missing something here, but are you suggesting I daisy chain all my external synths and ditch the separate midi devices?

No, I am not suggesting that. I am trying to understand the workflow you have where a common MIDI thru would not/could not work.

A common MIDI clock implies that the external devices are just playing back and not being sequenced by ACID. ACID is the master, and they just listen to ACID for start/stop and clock information. They are not being told to play a sequence of notes that are external to them.

Thanks
Peter

Peter,
The common clock is used to set the pace on a couple of outboard sequencers but other synths need the clock to sync their LFOs, arpeggiators and delay fx. Acid is still sending the note data.

Please let me know if I have not explained this fully. Do you see my need?

Cheers,
Gary

I understand and agree that this functionality is useful.

ACID 6 and 7 cannot do this. The only currently solution is to use an intelligent MIDI device such as some of the MOTUs and other devices permit.

I cannot say if or when such a feature will be added to ACID, but it will be considered for a future release.

Having said this, there may be a way to solve this using MIDI OX or some other tool. Let me play around a bit and I will get back to you.

Thanks
Peter
