Subject:Can "Project Key" be set to default to None

Hi all,

I'm in my 30 day trial of Music Studio 7. I've discovered that when I import a type 1 midifile, the instruments are pitch shifted and therefore, in the case of drums on channel 10, playing the wrong drum sounds. So I then noticed that the "Project Key" was set to "C" (the program apparently defaults to "C" upon opening a new project).

So once I changed the "Proj Key" to "None" everything played fine. So my question is: is there a way to set "Project Key" to default to "None" when opening a new project?

No, you cannot set the default key.

It sounds like the MIDI file is not authored correctly though. ACID will read the key of the MIDI file and if drums are correctly marked, they will have a key of none associated to them. ACID will then play the drums with out pitch shifting.

If you load the MIDI file as a Project in ACID, does the key get set correctly?

If you look at the clip properites for the drum track, what key is set for the drum clip?

No, ... for example I just loaded another type 1 midifile using "Add to Project with Events" and the Project Key was "A". It was "A" when I opened AMS 7. The wrong notes were being played, as described in my previous post. I've tried this with about 6 different midifiles and it occurs every time, so I don't think it has to do with "authoring".

The Clip Pool says the drum track key is "F".

I guess it's not a big deal. All I need to do is get in the habit of setting the Proj Key to "None" before importing the midifile and all pitches are played as intended.

Can you point me to some of these MIDI files?

I would like to try them out.

Thanks

Well, I d/loaded them yrs ago, so I doubt I can retrace the source. I can certainly email them to you. If that's what you'd like, just let me know what address to send them.
