Scene Detection when Importing DVD's

{My apologies - I posted this in the Vegas Pro forum originally and couldn't figure out how to change it to this forum.}

To import a video of a DVD I select "Import Media", navigate to the VOB files, and then wait while VMS adds the VOBs to my project media.

Is there a way to detect scenes or should I be importing DVD video differently?

Also, I've seen other posts suggesting the VOBs be converted to MPGs using a dedicated converter. Is this necessary to insure proper audio/video synchronization?

If you get A/V issues with this method, then yeah, download the SUPER freeware utility and transcode to another format, possibly mpeg-ii, or huffyuv which is lossless.

I'm not familiar with the "SUPER freeware utility". Do you have any more detail?
