A video file that V5 can open but V8 can't???

Hi all,
I downloaded two video files from the following link:
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/nikon/d90-review/index.shtml

"Movies are saved in AVI format, using the Motion-JPEG codec." they wrote.

UVS 10 Plus and PE 3.0 opened it.
V5 opened it. But Vegas pro 8.0c can not!
When I right click,
Properties,
Media,
Format : Morgan Multimedia M-JPEG V3 codec.

I had downloaded this codec for the avi files that comes from Canon S1 IS years ago in order to see them with V5

I think V8 does not see this codec???
If yes, how to make them see each other?

Thanks in advance.

You must have issues.

I downloaded both the train and the waterski clips and they opened fine in 8c

Do you have something like " Morgan Multimedia M-JPEG V3 codec." in your pc??
Maybe I should delete mine!

I have no spacial codec packs on here at all. Just the standard that came with Vista (what ever they are) and of course what came with Vegas, Nero, and a few other main stream apps.

I can't open the D90 clips in Vegas 8c either. They play in WMP and I can open them in Edius, but not Vegas. I'm using XP though, not Vista, wonder if that is important?

As if it was a video of a red painted wall:)

Both clips play on my machine with Vegas Pro 8c

Both clips play fine on my XP Home Edition in Vegas 8.0c. It identifies it as Sony Motion JPEG in the properties. Interestingly, neither clip will open in Vegas 5, 6, or 7 on the same computer. It gives audio, but no video.

That makes perfect sense as Vegas 8 added an MJPEG reader that the previous versions did not have.

I am seeing the exact same results as Greg.
Plays fine in Vegas Pro 8.0c but only audio in Vegas 7.0e - WinXP-SP2.

I solved my problem with Morgan Multimedia, Morgan M-JPEG codec V3 but it will cost me 20 bucks after 60 days!
Is there any other better ideas:)

If you are going to be buying an mjpeg codec, I would recommend getting the http://www.pegasusimaging.com/picvideomjpeg.htmPegasus mjpeg[/link] instead. It is simply the best version of the mjpeg codec that you can get and it's only $28.

Among the reasons why it is such a good codec is that it is extremely fast, excellent quality, and supports both VFW and directshow. This means that it works well not only with Vegas and Virtualdub, but also with media players that make use of the directshow graphics card acceleration. At the higher quality settings, it is hard to tell the video quality from uncompressed. The playback efficiency is so good that you can even view the video with old computers like P2s and P3s! It is a tremendous codec to use for things like Acid Pro where you want to score a film and preview the video you are scoring to with as high quality and as low overhead as possible.

Download and install the demo version of the MainConcept MJPEG codec.
As long as you're not using it to encode, it won't put the watermark on the output.
