Fred,

Where/how did you get the final "upgrade"? ... hadn't really had the
time to search but can't seem to find an "upgrade" path on SF's
site ... am assuming that you have to call?

Thanks for any info.

Upgraded as well and is def worth the wait.Just go and Pay $179.10
to upgrade if you wish to get video. If not then wait till august when
the $99 audio version comes out.

Karl, go to the SF "store" and scroll down to the bottom. Your
right, its not with the "products" or "downloads" as you would expect.

Thanks, Jim ... got it.

IMO, SF really needs to review the flow of their online purchasing as
it is starting to get a "tacked on as an afterthought", "spaghetti
code", feel to it.

... and apparently the concepts of "download" and "install" now have
different meanings then the one's I've come to expect from 20+ years
of computer use.

For starters, it is far from obvious *where* you go to purchase the
upgrade to Vegas Video from Vegas Pro on the site. Common sense seems
to suggest that upgrading would be one of the options when you click
on "Buy" from the Products page ... but that is not the case.

Further, purchasing software that had not been previously downloaded,
I would have expected to be ultimately taken to a screen where I
could download the actual software to complete the purchase ... guess
again! You come instead to an total dead end, insofar as downloading
and taking possession of your purchase is concerned, at the "Thank
you" screen.

Designers need to take into account that, in the normal course of
human experience, the purchaser expects to take delivery of his
purchase immediately AFTER he has paid, and not before.

At this point you can supposedly "Click here to install the product
(s) you have purchased" ... but the unsuspecting clicker would
instead get a ".reg" file, which is certainly far from the usual
meaning of the phrase "install" the product.

It should also be noted that the "download" link you receive in e-
mail ultimately takes you to the same damn dead end as above, despite
the fact that is has a "Download Now" button ... which does NOT live
up to its promise either.

Having previously purchased from SF and gone through the "activation
code" process a few times, I guessed (correctly, I trust) that
the "Trial Version" of Vegas Video on the Download page was probably
the latest and the real thing (except for the registration process)
and grabbed it ... after the fact ... but nowhere would an
unsuspecting newbie, or even a relatively sophisticated online
purchaser, know that for certain.

Anyhow, the whole process is needlessly muddled, IMO.

Suggestion: On the "Thank you" page after completing the purchase, at
the very least put a link to actually DOWNLOAD the product just
purchased. For those who have already downloaded the "Trial Version"
it would be easy to stipulate that if you already have version X,
Build XXX of this product, it is not necessary to download it again.

Just my .02.

Thanks for the road map! The site does need better flow.

As a professional web developer, I can safely say that SFs site is
suffering from content bloat. SF is a marketing oriented company,
hence the magazine-like qualities of their site (endless pages of
useless marketing giberish). I'd like to see a site where more is
considered less, and for God's sake, SF should open a seperate
investors' site (your customers couldn't give a damn about your stock
price or strategic alliances). I get irked about these things because
it's what I do for a living...but the the site does have room for
improvement. If SF would cut the marketing what-not and rethink their
ia, the site could be much more user friendly.

The forum section of the site is well done; it is a valuable service
to SF's customers. The site needs more customer-centric functionality
as opposed to sales driven BUY NOW pithces. Judging by the survey
that they forced into my life directly upon entering their site today
(the pop up that froze my browser the first time), SF wants to get
more people into their online store, which means that none of my
wishes will come true. Oh well. I should have charged them $25000 for
the advice and maybe then they would listen.

Later all and hang in there,

-Tad
