Re-installing after hard drive crash

I just had a hard drive crash and replaced the drive and then re-installed Windows XP. All of the information on the old drive is still available (including Vegas, DVD Arch & Sound Forge) but the disk itself won't boot.

This may be a question for support but I thought I'd ask here. If I just go ahead and re-install these applications and re-register would that be the best thing to do? Or will I get hit with a multiple installation/registration problem? I can't run these apps on the old hard drive because of various support dlls and registry entries (or whatever) exist on the old hard drive so I can't un-install and un-register them.

Is there any way I can transfer registration info from one hard drive to another|?

It would be. It's generally very quick and easy if done online.

Or will I get hit with a multiple installation/registration problem?

If you've re-registered numerous times, you may need to contact Customer Service and explain why before you get a new number but they're pretty understanding about it.

i've reinstalled vegas 8 ~10 times since it came out. I haven't had to call customer service. In fact, I've never had to call customer service for reset my registration.

I once went through a spate having to re-install XP then all apps after experiencing several unrelated issues. After a while I had to contact Sony for re-activation. I did this through their on-line support system and it was sorted in less than 5 minutes. I just explained why I had to re-install and all was OK.

My suggestion is to get an imaging program such as Acronis and use it to do an image of your C partition onto an independent hard drive (perhaps an external drive connected via USB2). If something ever gets seriously ill or your new drive fails one day, you'll be back in business in one hour as if nothing had ever happened.
