HEY GUYS I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY CAN GIVE ME SOME ADVICE
ON HOW TO RENDER MY PROJECTS IN MP3 256 QUALITY FASTER. I USE ACID PRO 5 AND 6 AND I WORK MOSTLY ON JUST POST PRODUCTION AND SOME EFFECTS. MY PROJECT IS USUALLY 30 TO 40 TRACKS AND THE TOTAL TIME
IS ABOUT 60 MINUTES. WHEN I RENDER TO MP3 OR WAVE IT TAKES
ABOUT 45 TO FINISH. IS THIS NORMAL WAIT TIME SINCE IS A BIG FILE?
I USE WINDOWS XP PENTIUM 4 2.4GHZ AND 2G OF RAM
I NOTICE THAT MY HARD DRIVE IS RUNNING OUT OF SPACE, I SEE
THAT I HAVE 20GIG LEFT FROM 100G, CAN THIS BE AFFECTING ACID
IN THE RENDERING PROCESS?? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

For what it's worth, I bumped up from an amd 4400x2 to a q6600 (quad core) and my rendering times have dropped a signficant degree.
When I rebuilt the system I made sure to use multiple drives/partitions. This means the OS is on a separate partition (and drive) to the Acid 'work ' stuff and the various streaming samples. The benefits are manifold: speeds up defragging; my work files are seperate from the system files in case there is a system problem and an image reload is required; And, to answer your question, the read write times regarding rendering are improved since it's not just one drive seeking across a giant partition.
You could add another gig of ram (3.25 is the max for xp!) but you might consider a rebuild upgrade. the quad core mentioned above is great, look at the wd raptor (10,000 speed) for your OS drive and good motherboard with lots of Usb/firwire ports.
check out sound on sound web site for articles regarding components, partitioning and setting up xp for audio.

good luck

I agree with martin7. It's been a long time since I used a single core machine but that render time doesn't sound too bad with 40 tracks depending on what FX you are using. I would recommend upgrading to a more modern PC (dual core or quad core) if you want to decrease render time. More memory always helps too although 2GB should be enough.

go quad. You can get alot of performance for not that much cash and you'll be insulated against software hogging cpu cycles for longer.

While you're at it, get a keyboard with lower case letters for the new PC.
