Is there a way to import markers or regions from SoundForge?

Bjorn_Lynne wrote on 5/4/2000, 10:14 AM
I have SoundForge and Vegas Pro. I've got this long sound-
file in SoundForge with lots of markers it in. The markers
are cues for other sounds to be mixed in. I'd like to use
Vegas to mix the other sounds in - ON my markers.

When I load the WAV file into Vegas, unfortunately all my
markers are gone. So I have to manually find the spots for
the spot-effects again. :-/

Is there a way for me to get Vegas to read my WAV file
*with* the markers and use these markers as "snap to"
inside Vegas?

Thanks in advance,

Bjorn Lynne

Hi -
You have to load the file into the trimmer and then you will see all
markers and regions there. Drag from there into the track view.

cdm

I'm sorry but I just can't get this to work. I drag the file into the
trimmer, and I see the markers there, no problem. I then select the
entire file, and drag it up to the track view. The audio data gets
put into the track, but the markers don't.

Any other takers??

Thanks,

No - you won't see the markers in the track view - only in the
trimmer view. From there you make your selections and drag into the
track view. I wish it were different too...

Hmm, this might be a little backward, but...

Pick up your file in Sound Forge, turn all markers into regions and
export them. Then import all those clips into Vegas (select in
Browser, right-click once while dragging to gather them on one single
track and let go inside the Track View) and you'll have your markers
at the edge of each clip. You can mute the entire sample and resample
them into like 8k 8bit mono for spacial purposes.

It's not THE way to do it, but it's one way... You can even name the
clips conveniently, like "swoosch", "big fucking boom" or "bird chirp
2A".

Note: This is how I did when excavating timing data from an old video
soundtrack made in Soundforge only. The pre-vegas era =)

no..no...no...no
you're missing a really convenient feature in Vegas!! Go to the
trimmer and load your file there. You will see all markers and
regions there. Then double click within a region or ctrl-shift arrow
right or left to slect through markers and then drag to a track. This
is the way to use markers and regions in Vegas.

Good luck...
