Hello Well, Acid 6 still seems to not like working with other plugins. First troubles were with UAD-1 plugs and now with Amplitube 2. I'm at the point once again with this Acid Software where I can't complete another project because of instability. Here is the dump info and perhaps Peter can help? I'm so disappointed with this software, it can do such great things, with such ease of use, but man it doesn't seem to get along well with other plugins and is not stable for me. I run everything in Cubase and it has never gone down on me. Man this just stinks, and more time wasted using this Acid Program. Sorry for the bitching. Peter here is the dump... Confirmed. Amplitube 2 hard crashes ACID pro 6d as soon as you attempt to select an amp model other than the default. Greg |

Would it be possible to have a Sony tech comment on this? Atleast let us know of a fix or if you have addressed this issue. I suppose no updates in 2 years means my request or hope of solving this problem is pretty much lost. How the hell can you put out such a bug ridden app and not update it in 2 years. Are you trying to put yourselves out of business? Cheye |

HI Greg Would it be possible for you to tell me the version number of your Amplitube 2 software. Are you using the updated version? Thanks Greg Cheye |

Cheye... I use Guitar Rig 3 all the time without it crapping out like that. Maybe you should turn your attention to the amplitube guys as well and see if they tested at all with acid. Ed. |

Cheye, I'm using Amplitube 2 version 2.1.2 (pretty sure this is the latest), WinXP SP3, ACID Pro 6d. Greg |

Thanks Greg I've also contacted the Amplitube side of the fence and they say they will look into this, and no reply from the Sony people. Cheye |

Hi Greg I'm using an older version(one back from current) of amplitube however, mine doesn't crash every time you select an amp model, but has just bizarre behavior and may just take down Acid for no apparent reason or sometimes while in record mode. It has crashed while changing amp models and other settings in amplitube as well. Does your version crash everytime you change amp models or just sometimes? I'm now wondering if the upgrade is worse? How does yours behave? Thanks Cheye |

Cheye, Ok, here's how Amplitube 2 seems to respond to ACID on my system. 1) If Amplitube is inserted on an audio track you can play guitar using the default amp. The instant you hit the preset menu bar you get a hard crash. No need to try to record the default amp - its horrible. 2) If Amplitube is inserted on a Bus you can change presets without issue and play forever. However, if you want to record there is a quirk. If you define the record length, everything seems to work fine. But, if you don't and leave the record length open ended ACID crashes with 2 seconds of hitting the record button. Amplitube 2 seems to respond normally in Vegas, Pro Tools, and Reaper. This looks like an ACID 6 issue to me. For this testing I was using the Digidesign ASIO driver which is really pretty solid. At this point, I would just try recording with Amplitube on a bus and with a defined record length. I think it's safe to say that ACID 6 and Amplitube 2 have severe issues about working together. I think we're stuck waiting for the next ACID release. Hope this helps, Greg |

Hi Greg Thanks for the in depth response and this helps greatly. Yes, Acid has a lot of problems with VST 's on inserts including the UAD-1 and Waves. I now only use Assignable effects and busses. The crashes I get are similar to yours and are almost always happening when recording. One dumb question for you is, what do you mean by define the record length? Do you mean defining with the locaters - punch in and out? By leaving the record length open ended, does this mean not using locaters to punch in and out? Just a little confused :.) If there is a work around to the problem I am happy, if not, Sony should fix it. You are correct in predicting that we will be waiting for the next version before we see a fix, but there will be a whole new set of issues when the new one comes around. Thank God for the users on this forum who have helped me out and many others. I didn't even get a response from Sony on this one. Must be a bug in Acid 6 for sure. Cheye |

Cheye, Yes, I mean use the locators to define the record length. When testing, I didn't get any crashes as long as I defined the record length and put Amplitube on a bus. It didn't seem to matter if it was 30 seconds or 5 minutes as long as I set the locators before hitting the record button. Greg |

Hey Guys....I need to chime in here for a minute. Amplitube has been the bain of my existence since I purchased it. Now I'm starting to have stack dumps with Waves products also. One person @ the DMN Sony Acid Forum told me to re-install Acid 6 but I'm hesitant to corrupt my clean install of Acid. I've gotten so desparate that I've turned to some freeware. There are three Amp Sims at this link that sound Ok. They are not Amplitube but they might let you get some work done untill your issues are resolved....http://www.audiomastermind.com/browse-amps___amp_simulators-5887083-1.html I've downloaded Juicy 77 & Boogex from pg 1 and CrunchDude from page 2. Juicy 77 might suprise you. I'm also trying to deal with IK's tech support now. I'll post again if I hear anything positive. My reality right now is that I'm considering another DAW. Cubase anyone? |

I made the switch over to Reaper, all the stability issues I used to have with ACID just do not exist. All my plugins, and I have a lot, including amplitube are working fine. I will rethink ACID when and if another release is made available. The fact that Sony does not help with these types of issues indicates to me that they either do not care or they understand the program is buggy but have no fixes. I use Cubase as well as Acid and I have never had Cubase crash yet. All my plugins work fantastic and best of all the UAD-1 goes to 99% at 2ms latency and rock solid. Acid crashes a lot with various plugs and does not perform well with the UAD-1 card. Acid seems to have trouble with...UAD-1, Waves, Amplitube and probably many more. It is obvious and well known that Acid pro 6 is NOT STABLE! Acid seems to work well with Reason but Acid even crashed when rewired into Cubase. It didn't take down Cubase but crashed itself thus forcing a quit of Cubase to reset the rewire and get things up and running again. Does Reaper work much the same way as Acid? How are they alike and different besides the obvious non crash scenario? Cheye |

If you have another application like Cubase you could always rewire Acid into Cubase, record your guitars in Cubase using Amplitube and then export them back into Acid. I don't think it would be that much of a hassle, far less than the frustration of crash, crash, crash and smacking your head against the table while cursing Sony and their non responsive tech support. There is always a work around, but not with Acid by itself, it is doomed unless they fix and update(not likely) or put out a new version. Peter will be back when there is a new version to help us out with those new problem issues that will come with the new Acid version. Damn! Cheye |
