Disabling Wrt Behind caused Vegas 1.0b to lock system

A few weeks ago, someone posted a pointer to a web site
that offered tips on turning a PC into a 'better' DAW. One
of the tips was to go into troubleshooting in the System
area of Control Panel, and check the box that disables
write behind caching.

I tried that, then started Vegas. The Vegas screen
partially displayed, then the system froze. W98SE.

I went back and unchecked the box, and Vegas returned to
normal operation.

I have 256 MB on this system, and have disabled Virtual
memory.

Actually, I wasn't having any problems whatsoever, so I
should have left well enough alone, right ?

Just wanted to pass back the surprise I got.

WOW! that's really OLD information.

The suggestion to turn off Write Caching is really a work around
for some older DAW's (Nothing every written by SF) that
were designed for DOS and didn't handle having a cache show
up in Windows very well.

Vegas, like all Sonic Foundry products, is tuned to run best with the
DEFAULT settings of Windows (Event better if you run Windows NT with
2 processors).
