How Do I set "Properties" settings for all clips?

FilmingPhotoGuy wrote on 8/1/2008, 11:35 PM
All footage at 25p full HD.

Project settings in Vegas is set to:
1: Non prog scan
2: 1.333 pixel aspect rario
3: Deinterlace method set to none.

After importing media I then have to right click every clip and go:
Properties>click media tab>set Field order to non progresive,Pixel aspect to 1.333.

There must be a way of doing it once for all clips.

There are scripts that do this. Excalibur for sure, and probably Ultimate S.

I'm missing something here . . Why not use the: File > Properties > Match Media Settings - procedure? No? - Is it that Vegas hasn't YET got a template for it?

Tried it, didn't work.

BTW I didn't see "Match Media Settings" Maybe you've got a script running

Open the Pan/Crop window on the first clip, right-click and select "Match Output Aspect".
Right-click this same clip and select "Copy".
Click the second clip, right-click and select "Select Events to End".
Right-click one last time and select "Paste Event Attributes".

Hi Grazie. That would set the project to match the file properties OK. But the problem here is that Vegas is not recognising the file properties correctly. This is very common if you do not capture the clips with Vegas When you bring them in, they are marked as interlaced instead of progressive, or 4:3 instead of 16:9 (or both). it is tedious to get Vegas to change all the clip properties to the correct settings, because you can only change one clip at a time.

It would be nice if you could select many clips and change the properties in one operation.

Hi RS170a Mike,

I tried your suggestion and different methods but it didn't work for me.

Richard hit the nail on the head. As my cam uses RAM to capture I simply download footage from a card reader thus not using Vegas to capture.

just to repeat: Excalibur and Ultimate S both do this. I think they both have free trials.

Eh? Richard, our friend here hasn't even FOUND the "Match media" thing? So how do you know that this wouldn't work?

As an acid test I'd really like LightAds to try it. If it THEN doesn't work, then ok. But What I said still stands - try to Match the Project to the Media. If it does then Vegas HAS recognised the Media's profile.

.. maybe I am being dense . . ?

I have done the exercise as stated and it still hasn't replicated the properties to all the clips.

PS. I did FIND the "Match Source Aspect" but it wasn't under the "properties" area, it was under "pan n crop" section.

I would have thought the SV would have automatically matched the footage to the project settings.

You would almost never want to do this. You don't match the footage to the project. The footage is what it is. You might want to match the project to the footage which is what Grazie is talking about. There is no reason to change the footage properties unless Vegas got them wrong, or you are going for a special effect.

Since in your first post you set up your project and then complained that Vegas did not set the footage up the same way, I have to ask the question: What are the "real" properties of the footage? Is this what Vegas is reporting in the Media tab for those clips? If so, it's all working as designed.

The answer to your original question is still what John Meyer has said twice: Get Ultimate S Pro or Excalibur and change the properties of all the footage with one click. Vegas can't do this on it's own.

Yeah...I just got through this with a bunch of quicktimes that Vegas mis-identified the par (pixel aspect ratio) on. I had dozens of them. I selected them all and right clicked > 'switches'> unchecked 'maintain aspect ratio'. At least that seemingly corrected the par problem. now, as far as changing other aspects of the footage without spending money, i guess you could always re-render the footage and re-import it.
