Subject:VSTi won't remember patch between project saves

I'm having a problem with Acid Pro 6.0 where a couple of VST instruments don't remember the patch / instrument I set between saves. I recently installed Acid on my new PC, and when I load one of my projects, I have to go in to the V-Station and Triangle II synths and manually set the correct patch for each one. When I then save the project, close it, and load it back, the patches are back to the defaults. Both synths are installed in “C:\Program Files\VSTsynths” - other synths (i.e. Absynth, FM7) don't have this problem. Any ideas on what I can do to troubleshoot this? |

I thought I was the only one who had that problem. The workaround is to render your MIDI tracks to a new audio track before closing the file. But it really shouldn't be a problem at all. Talk about the basics. |

I use to have that problem but after AP6 it went away, but still sometimes it is a bit finicky. I just played around with it a bit and the weird thing is that I can not get the VST control window to even open at all, I can change the patches in the track list. Any ideas on what is going on? |

gunhed: Reading between the lines it looks like you've already got a good piece of daw software in Sonar. What version? Each version from Sonar 5 onwards has almost all the functionality for working with loops that Acid has, except for creating Acid-type loops. And if you really need some piece of functionality that's in Acid but not in Sonar, you can always rewire Acid into Sonar and use Sonar to record. If you're doing a lot of MIDI work, Sonar is really the better option. I had been using Sonar for years along side Acid 5. When Acid 6 came out I thought it'd be a good alternative as a recording program to Sonar. It really isn't. Acid 6 has been very unstable for me; some have had success with it, some haven't. So it's back to Acid 5 rewired into Sonar or Sonar 5 alone. Jack |

I logged on here after my last AP6 project crashed and I lost the many subtle tweaks I'd done on a uTonic drum track & patches. Grrrrrrr. You'd think it'd be enough having saved the song every 60 seconds. Things like this really aggravate me with Acid. It's otherwise such a great app. I hope version 7 isn't so flakey. |

Jack - you are probably right that Sonar could replace Acid (and probably do a great job at it). I'll have to look into that. The thing is that all my projects are developed in Acid, and it would be a monumental task to port them over. It would also make collaboration with my other band member more difficult (we pass project files back and forth via the internet, as he is out-of-state). I'm thinking that I may roll back to version 5 of Acid - I don't think that version 6 actually added anything all that useful. If I recall correctly, the main thing it did was add ReWire slave and DX VST support, but I can user a wrapper for those, if I even use any. It's inconceivable that they could add a feature and break another, completely unrelated one. I'm hesitant to spend the money to upgrade to the next version, if it ever comes out. :p |
