minor suggestion for future versions ...

It would be great to be able to see the track names even
when the tracks are minimized to point where you can't see
the naming strips to the left of each track. I'm frequently
mixing 16 tracks at once with all tracks minimized and it
would be handy to be able to see the track names at that
viewing level (to quickly reference which track, for
instance, is the bass guitar track without enlarging tracks
until I find it, in case I haven't placed it in a typical
location). Perhaps when the track is minimized to the point
that the naming strip disappears on the left, it could
reappear super-imposed over the actual waveform display in
the track (I think SAW might do this). That wouldn't bother
me -- I wouldn't be doing any envelope editing or
cutting/pasting at that viewing level anyway.

A very minor quibble... keep up the great work.

I generally name each wave file after recording and then leave "Show
Active Take Name In Events" enabled for this very reason. You can
enable this on the Options|Preferences|General tab.

How about a "mouse over" event that would show the track name in a
ballon? That would also do the trick when you didn't want to show the
active take names.

A-ha. Good idea, Karl.

I agree about the mouse over event idea, as well.

1) what about a quick punch function to drop in and out on the fly
while lock up to smpte ?

2) an MMC send via midi interface, or a compatibility with any HUIs (
mackie, peavey...)

The mouse-over already works - just hover the mouse over the track
color all the way on the left and it will give you the scribble name.
Having the take name turned on is good too.

Wow -- can't believe I never noticed that. Nevermind, then!

To be honest, neither had I ... but then again I have only bothered
with the scribble strips once or twice when first checking Vegas out.
It just seems a waste of time to be doing all that "secretarial work"
while a client is watching and on the clock. :)

I've devised a console "scribble strip shorthand" over the years
working in various studios and I use that to name the takes after
recording. That way, I can use the shortened names, leave them
active, and they rarely obscure my view of the actual wave events
themselves ... and I can tell at a glance which track is which.

However, when you use more than a few letter, and invoke
Peter's "silence is golden to a DAW" rule and start splitting up
events, the take names can clutter things up real fast.

A big, big thank-you for that tip! I too can't believe I didn't find
the "mouse over track name" already. Would also like to PRINT a
track list, maybe with volume, pan, effects appylied etc. Vegas is
great.

Print functions would be good. So far, I'm really enjoying Vegas.
The only real gripe I'd like to see addressed is a persistant
preference setting across projects for the path to store the files.
It keeps reverting back to the "Program Files" directory on each new
project. (Perhaps I've missed the "trick" to make this work...)

Thanks for a great product!

Brian

There's a check box in prefs for this - Start All Projects With These
Settings
