HDV users: please read

ForumAdmin wrote on 7/2/2008, 12:22 PM
Greetings loyal users,

Some but not all of you have been running into problems with your HDV .m2t source material. For those with HDV .m2t problems, the symptoms typically are some combination of

a) black frames

b) red frames

c) Vegas instability

As we all know there are many types of HDV .m2t files, and the way the files are captured differs somewhat between capture apps. This makes testing and debugging pretty difficult as you can imagine.

However, rest assured we have been working hard on resolving the issues above, and we have a new HDV reader for Vegas Pro 8 in QA now which resolves these problems with all test media we have. This reader will be part of our forthcoming general Vegas 8.0c update. Before we release Vegas 8.0c to the public, we are interested in hearing your feedback on this new HDV reader, and would like your help testing it prior to the Vegas 8.0c update.

If you are interested in testing a pre-release version of this HDV reader, please fill out your system specs, update your contact info with an email address where we could reach you directly, and respond to this sticky thread that you would like to participate. We will post back here once the beta reader is available and provide download and installation instructions. Please do not try to get this via our Customer Service group or to contact us directly about this pre-release reader. This forum is the place for us all to communicate about it.

We look forward to working with you, we want to get this right for you, stay tuned and we'll make this available very soon.

cheers-

DH

Please add me to the testing list. I have two projects right now that will not render all the way through. One stops at 87%, the other at 62%, so I am all set to test it out right away.

Updated systems specs although I have multipe PCs.

Yes, count me in. I have media on hand that'll bring on noted problems.

I really hope more Region50 users who've had these issues sign up.

Yes I would like to take part in the beta test.

I do not have time to test, but here's a link to Peter Wright's short PAL m2t clip which reliably shows two black frames starting at frame 161 if dropped into a Vegas HDV 1080-50i (1440x1080, 25.000 fps) project.

I hope Peter doesn't mind me linking to his file, but I assume only a few people (hopefully at Sony) will need to download it. In the current versions of Vegas, once you have the problem, at least on my system, I can get the black frames to disappear simply by changing the preview resolution. Once they are gone, they don't come back, even if resolution is changed.

It's been over a year since I contacted SCS Customer support about this issue. Their response , at the time, was demeaning and unwilling to accept responsibility. It has been only thru the sustained effort of several people that SCS now admits some culpability.

I'm shocked and dismayed it took this long for any acknowlegement to be made evident. But, I think it validates my arguement that customers that roll over and support a disfunctional vendor do nothing but perpetuate their own dissatisfaction.

edit: and for those who think this is the wrong place to post my dissatisfaction....personally, your syrup sweet adoration of your abusers is, simply put, ludicrous.

So tell me... you're one of those people that's NEVER satisfied at Christmas, right? There's always a bigger, better, more expensive present that they could have bought you.

Sony asked for testers... not whiners... go take it somewhere else.

Bill:

You may be right, you may be wrong, but I don't think making this statement now really helps anything.

I'm interested in testing it.

I have hit black frames and red frames in some HDV projects.

While my XDCAM HD projects, knock on wood, haven't had a problem.
