Ripple Deletes...reliable?

I often find myself needing to do a post edit ripple after a projects been completed as part of fine tuning. I dread using the ripple function because things often just get screwed up. Parts of the video or audio will get out of sync and I have no idea why. I then need to either resync them or undo. If I undo, then I need to select/group stuff and that's not alwasy easy, especially with many tracks.

Speaking of many tracks, what's up with Select To End? Is there a way to select everything from a spot on the timeline...and I mean everything and not just some of the tracks. This might make the ripple problem easier to mitigate.

I did a search on ripple and didn't really find much. If I'm the only one having this problem and it's something screwy in my configuration, then that would be good to know as well.

Have you looked at the options within the ripple command.

These can make a difference in how a ripple reacts.

I usually find INSERTING TIME to be an easier way to control all of the track movements.

If the Ripple you use, whether it's auto or post, should be the third option - all events, tracks, markers etc, then everything will move, and it is reliable and accurate UNLESS you have left any events locked, in which case they will stay fixed whilst everything else moves.

Do some trials and see what happens - remember you always have undo if something unwanted happens.

Make sure you select 'Quantize to Frames' first, unless you are editing audio only.

Yes!!! Thank you!

I set Quantize to Frames and tested one of the troublesome ripples and it worked perfectly.

I dont' see any kind of indicator about the state of this option on the layout anywhere. I see this setting mentioned a lot and woder if, because it's so important, it should be more obvious.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. My faith in Vegas is restored.

A couple of things to watch out for.

1. Make sure the ripple option is set to "All tracks, markers and regions".

2. Make sure none of your clips are locked. Locked clips will not move when you do a ripple edit.

IF it is not on your toolbar, you can add it. This makes it more obvious.
