I am trying to install the boxed retail version of Sound Forge 8. I get as far as specifying the install directory, then an error box pops up that says: "The selected shared components folder is invalid. It is in use by a conflicting Sonic Foundry product." and then states the path to the folder for shared plugins. I cannot continue the install from that point. First, I did not get a chance to specify a shared plugins folder during the SF install. Second, the only other Sony things I have installed on the computer are Vegas 7, Vegas 8, and DVD Architect 4.5. I have never had any Sonic Foundry product installed on the computer. I don't get this error message if I use the default install folder. However, my practice is to install all my applications on a different partition than the OS -- something I have done with Vegas and DVDA with no problem. Anyway, I went ahead and installed to the default folder on the C drive. But if I go to open a file, SF does not recognize WAV files as media files (both WAVs rendered from Vegas and WAVs recorded on a Zoom H2) and returns an error if they are dropped into the program from Windows explorer. The install is of the latest version on the Sony website (8.0 d). I'm totally stumped by this. Anyone tell me what's going on? Message last edited on5/5/2008 9:20:15 PM bynolonemo. |

I believe Sonic Foundry is the company that was purchased by Sony that made the Sound Forge, ACID, Vegas, products. I thought SF 8 was out way passed the Sony purchase, but maybe you had some other application (fruity loops, plug-ins?) that are causing the conflict. Do you have a Sonic Foundry directory under Program Files? Also, under options or preferences make sure that all of the audio files you want Sound Forge to recognize are selected. Good luck. |
