Hello all. I recently my hardware and it came with 64bit Vista. After Sony told me I would have to upgrade to SF9, because 8 is not supported, I am perplexed. I use to utilize the SONY plug ins a lot in SONAR for individual tracks. However, now they don't show up in SONAR even when I try to add them under options. Although they are .DLL files, it ignores them for some reason. Is there something you have to do in Sound Forge 9 to have third party audio applications recognize the .dll files? Thanks for your help. |

What version of Sonar? Also make sure you have the latest version of Direct X, which is 10.xx You might also want to post this in the Sonar forums, which you have access to being that you have a registered version of Sonar (I hope). |

If you are just running a Forge 9.0 demo, this is expected. If you are running the full version, make sure you update or re-scan DirectX plug-ins in Sonar. J. |

Yes, I have the full version of SF 9.0. I posted something on the Cakewalk forums and contacted Tech Support. They were at a loss and said it was a Sound Forge issue. I will see what Direct X version I have. Thanks for your response. |

Easy enough to verify with a non-Cakewalk and non-Sony DirectX host. Most have demos or are free (e.g. Reaper, Audacity, etc.). One exception, the Powered by Izotope plug-ins included in Forge 9.0 will not show up in non-SCS hosts or SCS hosts released prior to Forge 9.0. This is by design per our agreement with Izotope. Also, the Sony .dlls are 32-bit binaries. If you are running a native 64-bit build of Sonar (not to be confused with the "64-bit engine"), then all bets are off. I think they only did Bit-Bridge for VSTs. J. |

I can not begin to express how frustrating this process has been. Windows Vista 64 bit allows users to access necessary memory (>3.5GB) so they can utilize multiple applications or resources (i.e. VST Plug Ins) and yet I have only had luck with installing SONAR and Digitech X-Edit in the 64bit Vista environment. I forked over $100+ because I was told that Sound Forge 9.0 works in this environment. Although I can get it to work as a stand alone, I expected to be able to utilize the .dlls as well with SONAR. Since I can see SONAR .dlls in Sound Forge this is especially frustrating. It's not just Sound Forge, Waves, Cakewalk VST packages, and Stylus RMX are giving me issues as well. You would think high end audio applications like Sound Forge, Pro Tools, and Waves would have been more prepared for the demands of a 64 bit Vista environment. My tantrum is over. Thanks for letting me vent. |

Your web site says you are using SONAR 4. Is that true? |

I replied: Checked in over at the Sonar forums and I haven't seen anything from you since August of 2007, unless you posted under another screen name. All I can say is if you are using Sonar 4, you're out of luck with getting it to run under Vista. I have both Sonar 3 and 5 and neither will run under Vista. You'll need to step up to Sonar 7. You'll still be able to open your old projects in 7; just don't delete S4 since Cakewalk dropped some synths in the later versions of Sonar. |

"You would think high end audio applications like Sound Forge, Pro Tools, and Waves would have been more prepared for the demands of a 64 bit Vista environment." I'm not quite following you here. Are you saying there is some issue with Sound Forge 9.0 itself under Vista64? Do the Sony plug-ins work in Sound Forge? Do the third-party plug-ins you mentioned work in Sound Forge? If so, it does sound like the old version of Sonar is the likely culprit here, not the other applications and plug-ins. J. Message last edited on6/26/2008 7:09:06 AM byForumAdmin. |

Thanks for responding. I use Moxioron for the SONAR forums and I have SONAR 6 producer now. I downloaded some demo third party plug ins recently and SONAR recognized them fine. Yes, the Sony plug ins work fine within Sound Forge, but I use some of them for individual tracks when mixing in SONAR. My frustration is really more with the fact that more audio applications are not ready for the Vista 64 bit environment and I am speculating that is why I can't see the Sony plug ins in SONAR. |
