HDV to SD Question

I'm a little confused. I just finished editing an HDV project in Vegas at 1080i (Shot on Z1s).

I need to put this on normal DVDs. I did a MPEG-2 downconversion within Vegas and chose the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen preset.

I then brought it into DVD Architect and set the project properties to DV Widescreen. I burned the DVD.

Results:

It plays fine on my NTSC TV but when I play it on my friend's HDTV much of the top and bottom of the picture is cut off and I tried all of the aspect settings on the HDTV to make sure that was not the problem.

Should I be setting DVD Architect to normal NTSC and not widescreen?

Thank you, Marc

I do this all the time and NTSC DV widescreen is what you should be using. So...you are doing that right.
No idea what the prob could be.

It could also be some settings on your friend's DVD player. It probably has zoom functions. Also make sure that the DVD player is set for the correct aspect ratio for his television. Most DVD players default to a 4:3 TV and you must specifically set them to 16:9 so they know how to handle widescreen stuff.

Just to clarify... you guys are setting your project properties in DVD Architect to NTSC Widescreen when bringing in downconverted HDV?

John, I did play around with the zoom functions on the TV (but not the DVD player) and it did not solve the problem. One think I forgot to mention however is that I'm using a motion menu (also rendered out as an NTSC Widescreen) and that did display properly. Perhaps this is an motion menu problem? I may have messed up the settings somehow.

I'm making some different test discs and will try to get over there tommorow and do some more testing. Thank you.

Turned out to be an internal setting on the DVD player. Thanks all for your help. Marc
