I just bought Acid Music Studio 6 (eBay). I have a blues track and I need to stick another twelve bars in the middle of it. I tried doing a cut and paste by ear. There's a rough point going into the new verse, but it sounds okay coming out of it. I tried shortening and lengtening the ends of the verses that are rough, but no luck. There must be a more precise way of doing this. I went through the manual. The answer may well be there, but I didn't see it. If somebody can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

I don't know if Music Studio 6 has it (or any other version for that matter), but ACID Pro has crossfade quick fades when events/clips overlap. (When they don't overlap, simple quick fades are used.) You have to zoom in for more precise editing of these fades.

A friend who uses different software suggested one of two ways.

1) Make two identical tracks and align them so the extra twelve bars blend smoothly. Then mute sections as needed. I don't quite have this entirely figured out in my head, but it sounds like it might work.

2) Zoom in, look at the waveform and match the ends of the bars that way. Again, not sure about it, but it sounds like it might work.

Any other help appreciated.

If you want those extra 12 bars to blend in with the original material, I would suggest crossfades. I know you can do this with ACID Pro but not sure with ACID Music Studio. (A cursory glance at ACID Music Studio tells me yes, but I don't have Music Studio to tell for sure.)

For example, in your original blues track, split the track. (Place the cursor where you want the split to occur and press S on your keyboard.) Move the latter half of the track to the right. Now paste or insert your extra 12 bars in-between. Move the events together until they start to overlap.

You'll notice they'll automatically have crossfades being applied. You can adjust these crossfades as you see fit, including when they start and how they mix in with the event that segues. (Right-click to see crossfade options; hover your mouse pointer over the fade curve to adjust the gain.)

Thanks, mD, I didn't understand what you meant until I actually did it. It seemed to me that I didn't want any crossfading, I needed the extra 12 bars to be seamless musically. But after doing it, I see what you mean. It was easy to do and worked out great. Thanks again.
