Let me first off say that I was extremely upset when 9.0 was getting ready for launch and I still had issues with crashes in 8.0 among all things. (I've just lived with it since) My system is one stable beast mind you, I'm very experienced in the Windows environment and with building, servicing, upgrading, and maintaining x86 PCs. So this is not a system stability or virus issue. The main easily reproducible crash issue I have is when a piece of audio is selected that is quite small it will crash. Doesn't matter if it's looping or not, just has to be a real time preview. My audio interface latency is set to 4ms(192samples) but in sound forge 8 it is set to MME, should I set this to 192 to match my interface, and maybe that will fix this issue? The other crash issue I have is while working with batch converter, sometimes the conversion process will stop midway through the job and the application will stop responding. This is quite random so I can't give any other information, other than it happens to me at least once every 2 batch runs or so. :/ In event viewer there are no crash logs are given so I can't give any info there. I hope I can resolve these crash issues, else I'm going to start looking at other audio editing packages. Message last edited on5/25/2008 8:24:21 PM byRyan Jaeger. |

" My system is one stable beast mind you,". Well considering you are having these crash problems in version 8 and 9, and most others are not, that may not quite be the case.... Why not try setting the buffer size to something other than very small (try 1024) ? There is *nothing* you are doing in SF that benefits from a low latency. geoff |

Well I ran a stress test (dual version of prime95) that pushes the CPU and memory for 48 hours with no errors when I built the machine, I think that's extremely stable for a consumer machine. As far as the audio buffering goes, that was my mistake I had my on board audio selected which is what confused me. The only reason I use my on-board sometimes is that it plays back the audio that the firebox won't play... On the firebox. Interestingly enough that leads me to another question, is the on-board audio the mobo the peripheral having the issue? I will test this with the firebox only and get back to ya on this one. |

I always disable mobo sound in BIOS if possible. Often a cause of confusion, if not actual problems ! geoff |
