I've got demo versions of acid running at home and at work. My home PC is an imp compared to my work PC, which I use for video editing, using Vegas. However, Acid doesn't seem to run as smoothly at work as it does at home. I have 4 GB of RAM at work, an nVidia Quatro FX 1500 vid card, and I don't understand why Acid's stopping for a few seconds everytime I add an eefect to a chain, or open up a new VSTi. My home PC is an antiquated piece of malarky, and it doesn't have any issues unless I've got several CPU hogging VSTis going simultaneously. Even under the worst circumsatnces, it's still never as bad as I've experienced at work.

The only thing I can think of is the sound card, which is on the motherboard at work. My home pc is using a 8 year old Creative LAbs Soundblaster livecard.

Any suggestions?

First: what OS are you running on each machine?
Second: what processes are running on each machine? Do the 3 finger salute (ctrl/alt/del) to bring up the task manager.
Third: what's the size of your swap file on each machine? That'll muck things up for sure.
Fourth: It may well be a hardware bottleneck in terms of drive access times and speed.
Fifth: you really should fill in your system specs on your profile
