Media Manager on a Network Drive

Hi,

The help file (Revised November 8, 2007) with Media Manager 2.3 says:

"Use common drive letters or UNC (universal naming convention) paths for the folders where your media files and libraries are stored on all computers."

but in Vegas 8 I just get the error when attempting to create or access a library on a network:

"Media libraries are not supported on network folders. Try copying the media library to a local hard disk and then opening it."

Directly contradicting the helpfile.

I've tried using mapped drive letters and UNC convention paths but neither work.

Cheers

Steve

Reading through the help file again.. it's pretty ambiguous, is it implying you need to have duplicates of all data in identical paths on all machines?

Surely not... while you wouldn't want to necessarily be streaming video across the network, for a sound FX library Media Manager working over a network would be perfect.

I was able to make Media Manager work in 7 with a Network of 4 editors. I just installed 8 today. I have not tryed to get it working yet but will be on it next week. We waited to make sure 8 was stable before installing. We have a gruling workflow and can not play around with problems. I will let you know how I fair with 8 and media manager. We share a 8tb raid NAS server. I mapped a Y drive to the 2tb section we use for the media manager. I put files we use over and over like Digital Juice graphics and all our sound libary in the 2tb section of the nas unit. Then I give everyone a copy of the media manager file I make. The nas raid lets me write and read to it. But the other editors can read the files only and use them on their time lines. It has been working great. I hope I get it to work in 8. I will let you know soon.

Hi Mikey, ok thanks.

So you mean that all the content was stored on the network but that the library file itself was shared manually and stored locally?

Thanks
