sonic foundry seems to have major issues with their web server; i've noticed this for the last
year, and it's only gotten worse with the interest generated by their new products. to get to the
download page, i had to click repeatedly on the link, and finally only succeeded by going out
and making myself a nice, well-done frozen pizza while the page loaded. as far as registration, i
tried three times with two different email addresses-- at ~1am cst on a friday night, mind you--
and got the same response you've experienced.

shame; i'm really excited to try out the product i've been waiting for for three years now. i don't
think SF stands a chance at becoming a real world power until they start running their server on
faster than a 2400 baud connection.

this doesn't make me feel good. remind me not to buy my retail copy of vegas on a friday night
when their phones are "closed for the weekend."

Hi all,

I've had similar problems downloading. The .pdf manual was
corrupted and I still am unable to register despite 10 or
so attempts... uurrgghh!

Same problems here. It's driving me nuts ! Sonic do
something about your server. I'll just keep pushing that
resubmit button....

Bor,

Sonic Foundry has two T1 connections serving our main
facility. In addition, we employ redundant FTP servers
located at two different ISPs for most of our downloads.

It sounds as though the problem you are experiencing is due
to latency in the route between your ISP and ours. This
means that somewhere in the chain of routers between your
computer and our server there is a link that is slow or
unreliable. If you are using Windows, you can run the
command "tracert www.sonicfoundry.com" to see the route
your packets are taking and the timing. If you could
forward the results of this command to me
(webmaster@sonicfoundry.com) it would be very useful in
detecting and resolving the problem. Thanks.

Jeremy,

Our ISP's email server was swamped on Friday due to the
large number of requests for Vegas Beta that we received
within hours of posting it. Although our Web site issued
your activation code within seconds of your request, it
ended up in a queue at our ISPs mail server waiting to be
sent.

We apologize for this problem... it should not happen again
under normal circumstances.

Harvey,

Please report the details of your failed registration
attempts to me (webmaster@sonicfoundry.com). If you are
unable to register online by Monday, you can call our tech
support voice number and have them do it for you.

Mike,

Due to apparent problems with our ISP's outbound email
server I have modified the registration script such that it
will display your activation code immediately upon
registering. If you are having problems registering then
please try again. You should see the code you need appear
in a yellow box immediately after submitting your form. No
need to wait for return email.

Again, sorry for all the problems, obviously our
registration system is new as is Vegas itself so both are
being beta tested right now. Your feedback and patience are
greatly appreciated.

I just received the email 6/11/99 and downloaded both the Vegas and the sdxmedia file. The first time failed on the
Vegas but the second was succesful. It seemed to stall out at about 80%...finally, when I came back it
was finished but incomplete. I am a novice when it comes to this type of program but last night I stayed up and did
multi-track recording on my computer for the first time. This is really cool!
Best regards,

Timothy Garrison

I still think you have issues. Your website is frequently
unaccessable. it could be an IIS4.0 problem

Not for nothin', BUT ... I didn't have any problems getting
a registration # or downloading the program.

Thanks for the GREAT products, Sonic Foundry. PLEASE don't
stop creating ...

I always knew my IBM could do what a MAC could!

What does this registration mean ??

Does it mean, that a part of the Vegas code behaves as a spy in my computer ? Looking around in my hardware and my software and generating this computer id which says maybe : this guy has a pentium xxx and hardware yyyy and has installed the following software products ? Maybe the Vegas code even looks for passwords or other private files ?

If this is the type of software protection the SF people plan to have in their software, then I would recommend to buy anything else than Vegas.

I want my privacy protected and want to control which private data leave my computer.

I will immediately de-install Vegas and will NOT even consider to buy it until SF decides on an other protection scheme. I have the Waves dongle, why not a second one.

Hi Gerhard,

Rest assured, the Computer ID that we generate is nothing more than a bunch of numbers. There is no information about your computer's hardware or software. There is nothing that we can get from the Computer ID that would allow us or any other company to solicit you in any way. It is merely a unique identifying number that we can use to generate an Activation code for you.

Thanks,
Caleb

Just wanted to add my experience to the list. I just purchased Vegas
Pro yesterday and did not have any problems downloading any of the
components or registering. I was able to get my activation code on
the first attempt. I did get a few occurrances of "too many ftp users
at one time", but I just re-clicked the download links and it worked
the next time.

Purhaps SF fixed the problems that I was reading about here or I just
happened to buy Vegas at a good time (network-wise).
