I've got AA2 and do enjoy it, however I'd like something that meshes with Vegas pro a bit better and obviously Sound forge is the better bet in that respect.

Is there anybody here that has both programs and can compare for me? I bought AA2 because it's a true multi track program which is pretty important to me. Can Soundforge do unlimited tracks?

Are there any good soundforge deals kicking around that I should know about?

The full version of Sound Forge 9 does multiple channels, not quite as flexible as multiple tracks, but quite useful in it's own right. I'm not sure that Vegas would pass off more than a single mono or stereo track to an external editor anyway though. If that's the case then any audio editor can be used with Vegas just well as any other.

I own both AA2 + SF9.

It really depends upon what type of editing you're doing.

If you're doing sound design and need mulit-TRACK editing, go with Audition, or use something else like Vegas.

If you're simply editing wav files sound forge is good - however I've had pretty horrible experience with SF9 with Stability issues. I own SF8.0 as well at home but use 9.0 at work. I'd try to find SF8.0 or put up with bugs galore until Sony fix the issues. I've supported Soundforge for a long time and believe it's a powerful easy to use tool compared to other wav editors out there.

AA2 is a good product, it's much more stable but I'm not keen on having to create a new project each time just to edit a wav file.

If you want a multitrack program Soundforge is NOT what you want. SoundForge is a multi-chanel EDITOR.

AA calls itself an 'editor' though it is actually a DAW, with editing functions rolled in, and has unfortunately blured the lines and confused people like you.

You need to decide what you actually want, then compare like with like.

Thanks guys... it sounds like I'm better off sticking with AA2 for the moment. It'll do multi track as well as multi channel editing.

I may just bite the bullet and pull out the wallet for Wavelab6. Ive been looking at that hard now for almost a year. I have Wavelab lite and I truly enjoy working with it. Version 6 is a pretty hefty price tag though!

Call Steinberg. They'll give you a decent competitive upgrade price.

Then, write back & tell us how you like it compared to SF & Audition...
