The situation: I have to make good sounding 8 bit voiceover files for use in a Web project. Due to the authoring environment we are compelled to use, the audio files must be PCM .wave files. The history: In the past, using Sound Forge, I have made 8 bit 22.050 .wav files and no matter what I did they always had an annoying swirly hisssing sound mixed in with the on-mic talent's voice. The question: What must I do to be able to make 8 bit 22.050 PCM .wav files without the hissing sound? Is there a certain software and/or tecnique that must be used? Ther is no way to get rid of the "Hiss" sound with 8 bits ...But what you can do is Compress the audio (a lot) before converting to 8 bits becaus then you would be squeesing the sond into the upper part of the dynamic range and therefore you would lose less of the sound when you throw away the lower 8 bits . You can also try to use Dither as opposed to Truncate or Round . |
