Subject:Volume on mp3 conversion

I am trying to save a srereo .wav file as an mp3. The
settings I am using are:

quality slider - max up
12b bit
convert to mono

Upon doing a "save as" I see (and hear) that the amplitude
of the resulting mp3 file is very clipped. When saving
a .wav file as an mp3, how do you keep these amplitudes at
their original levels?

Thanks,

Al Brassell

Hi Al,

Before you convert your audio file to mp3, try using Sound
Forge's Normalize function to level out and limit the
amplitude of the data. Try Peak Normalizing to about -3dB.
This should help to keep it from clipping during the
conversion process.

Best,
Scott
