I'm sorry to say that but this question has been discussed and answered zillions of times around here - I guess ;-) Please use the search :-P

It seems to me, it would have been easier to just answer his question rather then make him use Search. Sometimes it takes forever to find a simple answer.

Installing and registering DVD Architect will automatically register the MPEG2 encoder.

At the time of V6 DVDA was a stand alone app. I think he is asking about the situation where he does not have DVDA.

I had to install a new hard drive in my laptop just last week and start everything over from scratch. I've only installed Vegas 8 so far, haven't installed DVDA yet. MPEG2 is operational and i didn't have to do any separate registration/activation for it.

I remember with older versions of Sony (probably SonicFoundry at the time) software all one had to do was render to MPEG or MP3 and a box would pop up asking if you wanted to register the MPEG plugin. Merely click yes if you're online and it was automatic. If you weren't online then the procedure was the same as for activating Vegas from another PC.
