When you mix down a song recorded on any of the popular multitrack formats (ie hard disk,DA-88, Adat,2 inch..etc.), you will have to individually mute the track that the main vocals was recorded on and then you will have mixed down an instrumental or performance version mix that doesn't contain the main vocal and then you can go home and sing karaoke to it, til your shower walls are crying for mercy...........oh what's that you don't own any of the original recordings of individual tracks so you can't mute or solo them individually? You mean you can't take Jimmy Page's aweful guitar part out on Stairway to heaven and bless it with your own rippin guitar licks? You mean I can't just removes Ajays voice and then sing along and fatasize that I'm one of the Backstreet boys? Life is over, what will I do now, that I just realized I couldn't disect someone else's music, so I can sample and loop only the parts I need to create my own song. You mean, I have to learn how to play an instrument and write my own music to be able to remove the vocals? This music thing sucks.....too much hard work involved....I'm going back to eating bon bons and watching the Spice girls movie for the 100th time, so I can really learn how to make it in the music industry. alexzhu wrote: >>I have no idea how to do this, can you please tell me how? >>Thank you |

Hehe, remix opinions aside, what Mr. Franz was getting at is that there is no reliable way to do this in mixed audio. You can play some panning tricks if the vocals are right in the middle of the mix, but that won't get rid of reverb and effect artifacts and will degrade the material significantly. In DSP-land, this is called source separation and is still a bit of a holy grail. Maybe we'll see some acceptable results in the future, but for now you might want to visit a Karaoke dealer on the web and invest in a vocals-free mix of the songs you're interested in. Jason. Its impossible. You would need the multitrack master and a mixer capable of handling the number of tracks the master has. Then you could eliminate the tracks with vocals. alexzhu wrote: >>I have no idea how to do this, can you please tell me how? >>Thank you |
