Can someone tell me the core difference(s) between these two packages Sound Forge 4.5 vs Vegas Audio? They seem to do the same thing on the digital audio editing side. It seems that Vegas Audio is the way to go, but when you click on the Learn More button on side of a Vegas Audio page, you see that SF suggests using Vegas with Sound Forge. What benefit is there with combining these two prods? THANKS!! Barry |

Hi Barry, The editing functions of the two programs are somewhat similar. The biggest difference is the number of tracks available in the two programs. Vegas Audio has unlimited tracks and has tools for multitrack recording. Sound Forge on the other hand is a two track (stereo) editor, and you will find that Sound Forge 4.5 has tools that are more suitable for mastering. Sound Forge also includes Batch Converter and Spectrum Analysis tools. If you were to use the programs together, you could use Vegas Audio to track a recording session, and then use Sound Forge to edit and master the final mix. Thanks for the interest! Vegas Audio is a family of mixing tools. Sound Forge is an editing tool. With the proper hardware you could record or load several tracks into Vegas. Vegas would then become your mixing studio. Its true that in Vegas you can add most Sonic Foundry effects such as Chorus and Distortion. You can also control pan and volume envelopes for each individual track and then play back all track at once. Sound Forge, a slightly less expensive application, allows the mixing of two tracks into a single track as well as control of pan and volume envelopes over a single track. But it is designed to playback one file at a time making it a better tool for editing a single file. Each product has is own specialty, but also work together as a team to provide a full professional audio editing and mixing environment. You can record your multi-track project into Vegas, launch Sound Forge from Vegas to perform focused editing on tracks that exist in Vegas, and then jump back to Vegas to mix your project down.
