Subject:SoundForge for Windows CE???

Hello,

A friend of mine recently purchased the new Compaq IPAQ
pocket PC which runs Windows CE v.3.0. Both of us being
big fans of SoundForge were wondering if anyone knew
whether or not Sonic Foundry has looked into making
some "lite" versions of their software for Windows CE. The
idea of a small multitracker like Vegas or wave editor in
Windows CE is tantalizing. The limiting factor would be of
course the onboard RAM of the little machine BUT you throw
on the CompactFlash adapter on the IPAQ and add a 1 GIG IBM
microdrive and you have a pocket recoder to be reckoned
with. The code in Vegas or SoundForge would of course need
to be optimized for the StrongARM processor inside but it
lies within the realm of possibility. Mainly looking for
the sleekest PORTABLE DAW around...heheheheh....anyone have
thoughts on this? Sonic Foundry? I wanna hear some
feedback!

Hi David,

A very cool idea, but the programs would have to be completely re-
written to run on Windows CE and handheld computers are not yet
advanced enough to consider doing something like that. Even with a
1GB hard drive, you would run out of space fast doing audio. Also,
most of the handhelds only record and play back at 11KHz sample rate,
which is about one fourth as good as CD quality sound.
