Subject:Sony Digital Voice Recorder

I have recently purchased a Sony PCG-Z505LS laptop and a Sony ICD-MS1 digital voice recorder which uses the Sony Memory Stick removable digital media to store the voice files. Unfortunately the sound editor program supplied from Sony to edit the Memory Stick Voice Files does not seem to work with Windows ME. Or so is the explanation from Sony. While I wait for them to write a patch or figure out exactly what the problem is I am looking for other solutions. I can play the voice file from the headphone out of the voice recorder in to the microphone in of the laptop. This works, but what I would rather do and is the more sensible thing to do is keep the file totally digital and transfer and edit it that way. I noticed Sound Forge XP 4.5 came bundled as part of the software package with the Sony laptop. The laptop has a built in Memory Stick reader so it makes it very convenient to transfer the voice files from the Memory Stick module direct to the hard drive. Unfortunately Sound Forge does not recognize the file format for the Digital Voice Recorder or at least the version that I have can not read it. I wonder if anyone knows what kind of a file the Digital Voice Recorder writes and if Sonic Foundry or any one else makes a conversion utility to convert it to a .wav format file or any other file format which Sound Forge could read. Any help in this would by greatly appreciated. Chris |
