The program is great and will do what I need too so I can create a soundtrack for my DV movies. What I need to be able to do is get the music off of the cd and into the computer. Is the below steps correct or am I missing something. I understand that you have to launch a player and then play the cd then record it with SF. What I was looking for was a way to start the recording at the beginning of the cd instead of the lag that occurs from pressing play on the player then the record button on SF. Is there anyway to have SF start recording at the same time that they play button is pressed on the player. I'm hoping that I'm not missing anything with the program features as I looked in the help file and didn't find much. Saw some posts on the forum about it and that's where I got most of my information from. Thanks Seth Parker |

Well, I think the easy solution to your problem would be to start recording on sound forge and then hit play on the CD player, instead of the other way around. Another thing I would look into would be to look into other software that actually "Rips" the audio from the CD (ie digitally extracts it)and converts it to a wave file. This is how I actually take audio off of a CD, because it does a digital extraction, so there is no noise added by your sound card and you don't go through a generation loss. Most Cdr software allows you to "Rip" the tracks to .Wav files. I use "Cdrwin" to do this for me, you might want to look into "Audio Catylist" also, I think there might even be some shareware software that will do this too. CD Architect use to do this also, but of course SF stopped making that. Once you do this, you will be able to load audio into your PC at up to 10 times real speed, so loading in a 5 Minute song will only take you 30 seconds. This depends on how fast your CDrom is. P.S. You think Sound Forge would just allow you to do a drag and drop from an audio CD and do the process of converting it to a wave file for you. I guess CD audio just hasn't been around long enough for Sonic Foundry to implicate this feature and there too busy spending time on more popular file formats like .MP3. There is in the Open menu to select the .RAW format and it recognizes audio tracks, but this method has not worked for me yet. I also heard there's a way to set up windows to look at CD audio tracks as wave files, but I forgot how this is done. Hope this helps, Brian Franz Seth Parker wrote: >>The program is great and will do what I need too so I can >>create a soundtrack for my DV movies. Well thanks for the info. Never thought of starting the recording first then playing the cd. Forgot that I was using a sound editor and could edit out the dead space in the beginning of the recording. I'll look into the ripping software and see what I can find that won't break the bank. I've spent a bunch of cash lately on software to do various projects and the funds are low. Again thanks and if I play with the raw thing and get it to work I'll let you know and also if I find out about a way to set up windows to look at CD audio tracks as wave files Brian Franz wrote: >>Well, I think the easy solution to your problem would be to start >>recording on sound forge and then hit play on the CD player, instead >>of the other way around.
