Subject:Need process tips: LP to Audio CD

I have a large collection of LP records which I would like to transfer to CDs. I'm using a standard turntable connected to my SoundBlaster X-Fi sound card via a pre-amp. This equipment configuration appears to be working fine. My question relates to my processing the recorded file (first saved as a *frg file). After I have corrected for noise and scratches, and am ready to start saving individual tracks, I don't know what the optimal file format should be (e.g. MP3, WAV, etc. ?). I plan to export the saved tracks to CDA for burning, but I need help in selecting good process steps. I'm sure this is a fairly low-tech operation, but I never seem to get it right. I'd appreciate tips regarding optimal file formats, sampling rate, and bit-depth. I'm currently using SF 8.0d, CDA 5.2d with a PIONEER DVR-115D 20X Internal DVD+/-R/RW/CDRW DL Burner. My OS is XP-Pro. |

Ok. CD is 44100Hz @ 16bit. You can capture higher than this, and down-convert at the last stage if you want, or you can just start and finish at this quality setting. But do not go any lower. IF you're going to CD - save as a wave file (microsfot wav). . Although, you could save as a forge project (your .frg), and then, once edited and regioned, use teh "extract/export to cd architect option" (assuming it was in v8, it's certainly in v9). |
