My gut feeling is that CD architect probably didn't sell well enough on it's own. It will probably be updated in the next Soundforge release and become part of Sound Forge so you won't have to buy a seperate redbook CDR program, it will already be part of sound forge and be a menu item like it is now. They just seem to be following along to keep up with their competitors. Steinberg's Wavelab 3.0 has all the abilities of soundforge, plus it has redbook burning within the program and you can also do multitrack non destructive editing, something you couldn't do with the combination of CD Architect and Soundforge, outside of overlapping 2 regions. So my suspiction is that SF has to change Sound Forge to have these additional abilities to compete with that. I don't think SF is that dumb to just kill CD architect, because that would eccentially kill the sales of their flagship soundforge, because everyone would buy Wavelab because it has all the essential tools you need for doing CD mastering in one software package. I am in no way boasting Steinberg, they're software has a lot of great features, I'm a professional audio engineer and I have a hard time trying to do simple edits with their products and if a piece of software takes me a month to learn how to do simple tasks, then it isn't very efficient for me and probably will never be mastered by the home musician either. SF user interface on all of their software is much more intuitive and user friendly. So I would wait for the next Sound Forge release before you jump ships to another software company, and try and deal with the bugs for now. Any Sonic Foundry reps willing to confirm my suspictions? Oh and then let me look into my crystal ball a little further, Vegas Video will incorporate things like realtime automation and maybe even an outside hardware control surface and become Vegas Video v3.0. Then after that Vegas Video and soundforge will all get in bed with Acid and spawn a whole new piece of software yet unnamed that will give you multitrack abilities, with non destructive editing, with all the specialize processing abilities of SoundForge plus the realtime looping and tempo changing abilities of Acid. Ahhh...for those of us who are already doing this with the 3 pieces of software and just a right click away this is not too hard to imagine. Oh course Sonic Foundry will get their moneys worth out of sales by selling all 3 pieces of software first and that yet unnamed piece of software won't come into production until Steinberg releases their version of Cubase VST v8.0, which does all those things, and maybe by that time you won't have to understand German to use their software either?. Great but is there any proposed release date for SF5 & will this include 24/96 support? I've used SF & Wavelab 2 in recording studios & within next 4 months want to purchase software for mastering. I much prefer SF but unfortunately Wavelab 3 has the edge in features and value for money if not stability. SF - don't let Steinberg become the Microsoft of music software... Cheers. pauly wrote: >>Very good! I have had these thoughts but was unable to put them all >>together!
