Congratulations!

Sound Forge changed my life. I've been using it for over four years
(after frustrating experiences with Cakewalk and Cubase), and now
I've become a complete Sonic Foundry fanatic. I've purchased, and
have become an avid user of: Acid Pro, CD Architect, Noise Reduction,
Vegas, and -- just last week -- Vegas Video. I love them all. The
main reason is the incredibly intuitive manner in which Sonic Foundry
products operate. Furthermore, the documentation is ALSO intelligent
and thorough. I am not a professional, but I have become VERY
comfortable with the complexities of audio mechanics through my use
Sound Forge and my reading -- and re-reading -- of the Sound Forge
manual. (The same is also proving itself of the very well written
Vegas manuals.) You can learn so much from the Sonic Foundry
products! But, more important for the short run, you will find
yourself able to produce incredible audio with very little effort.
Experiement like crazy and you will find no end to what you can
achieve with these products.

If you don't have one yet, I would recommend you also purchase a
professional-grade sound card. I have had good luck with the Echo
products (both the Darla and the Layla models), which are very well
priced.

For your next Sonic Foundry purchase, I would recommend Acid over
Vegas. Acid is MASSIVELY versatile -- fully capable of multi-track
mixing, in addition to its intended use as a loop compiler. I bought
Vegas because I could afford another toy, but I really don't think
that I'll ever use it to its fullest (not being a pro).

But I am curious about your FX-1 purchase. I don't own any of the FX
plug-ins (other than Noise Reduction, which is excellent), but I've
never felt the need to -- because Sound Forge comes with an
impressive range of effects built-in that seem to be redunant to the
FX-1-through-3 packages. Let me know if you find anything
substantially more in FX-1 than what is already in Sound Forge.
