I'm using SF 4.0 and it seems that on most recordings I wind
up with pops and clicks that were not on the source tape. I
use a Gina soundcard and have done all the tweaks that are
recommended in the help files and from this forum but it
hasn't helped. I have been using the glitch finder and then
using the pencil to remove the glitches manually but that
can be a slow and time-consuming process. I see that they,
SF, have a plug-in (Noise Reduction DirectX plug-in 2.0)
that can be purchased but it seems ridiculous to have to buy
a plug-in to fix the glitches that sound forge is
introducing in the first place. Does anyone have any
suggestions? Does this plug-in work with 4.0? Are there any
other cheaper alternatives? I sure like to eliminate the
glitches during the recording process.

Here's what I'm running
HP 500 m Pentium
27 gig HD
128 m Ram
All programs except explorer, systray & Gina board are
shutdown.
Windows 98

I quess that the glitches come somehow from your hardware. I have mastered quite many cd's with Forge, with the material coming from various sources including compact cassettes, dat, dcc and minidisc. I have an ordinary system with 450 MHz, 64 MB, and a cheap SoundBlaster Live Value sound card, the OS is NT 4.0.

I have never experienced any artificial sounds entering the material during the process.

BTW, check your cables!

I get a tiny dropout, maybe evry 90 seconds,. If you look in the faq
it will suggest to get rid of this, turn OFF the smooth scrolling in
OPTIONS (SHIFT + F6).
