I'm looking into purchasing a few copies of some sort of audio editing application that will allow import of SD2 format audio. I notice that Sound Forge supports SD1 format. Is there a plugin for SD2? If not, are there plans for SD2 support? Thanks, J^2 |

From our FAQ on Sound Forge #36: Why does Sound Forge not support Sound Designer II files? Macintosh files have 2 parts to them—the Resource Fork and the Data Fork. The Data Fork is the only part visible to a Windows machine. When Digidesign made the Sound Designer II file format, they decided that they would put all of the audio data in the Data Fork and all of the other information such as Sample Rate/Bits/Channel information, Markers, etc. into the Resource Fork. This means that we have no way of getting to any information other than the audio data, and Sound Forge cannot write any information other than audio data with regard to Sound Designer II files. You can import Sound Designer II files into Sound Forge by using the RAW option. The only caveat is that you need to know what format the data is in, i.e. 44.1 kHz, mono, 16-bit. There is no way to write Sound Designer II files from a PC. Peter J. J.
