Subject:Trouble sizing down a wav file

I'm trying to get a wav file about 45 seconds long and
about 1 MB down to something decent sized to use for the
background of a web page. Should I stay with wav or is
there a different file extension format I should use? I
want it to be somewhere between 100K and 200K preferably.
Something that can be downloaded quickly. Am I just wasting
my time? I don't want MIDI because of the sound quality and
I can't do MP3 because of market avalibility. Or does
someone know something I don't know. I hope so! That's why
this is on here!

Jeremy:
I not know a format, but a CoDec that can help you.Install with the
Net Show tools 3 ( comes with the CD of the Sound Forge 4.5). It
compresses a song of 45 MB in 1,2MB. Fraunhofer llS MPEG LAYER is
called - 3 (advanced).

What you need to do is do a save as in Forge. There are a number of
ways to compress the file.

To save as a compressed wave file:

In the save as dialog, there is a format selection. This will default
to PCM. PCM is standard uncompressed wave format. Make a selection
other than PCM. Some of the options may not be available, so you will
have to select a valid one.

Select an altenative file format other than Wave. Click on the "Save
as type' combo box. It will present you with a number of file options.

Look at the Advanced Streaming Format (asf) or Windows Media Audio
(wma) from the Save as type as an option. Click the help button in
the save as dialog for more info on these types as well as a full
discussion of Save As and compression.
