Subject:Sound Latency in AMS7on Vista

Hi here folks

I`m expirenceing Latency problems in Acid music studio 7.
Midi approx 45~55ms delay having hit the note to actually hearing it.

Recorded Audio tracks Play back is out to hell irrigardless of the number of tracks recorded.

For audio trk I have to manually edit and visually move wav starts to grid markers. to get any kind sync with preivious Tracks (This tends to disrupt one`s creative thought patterns)
some what. (Great I guess, if you enjoy Audio Jigsaw puzzles).

Software runnig on a:
Intel(R) Core™ 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40Hz @.239 GHz
Mem 2047 mb
Vista Home premium ed. 32bit

Graphics = Nvidia GF 8500 GT G/Card Driver ver 7.15.11.6369 11/09/2007

Sound /C = Realtek HDA Driver 6.0.15371 dated 6/02/2007

Optical Drive= Lite-ON DVDRW LH20A1PATA

HHD = WD 500gig.

The on board sound card (realtek) may well be the problem?
( I guess)

I have a spare Std Audigy value 24bit model #SB-0570 S/Card.
Would this be a better propersition to use?

Though I`m reluctant to install it, in case of voiding Computer`s existing warranty.

Also on the Forums theres talk of ASIO Drivers to lower possible
Latency errors.

If installed would they override my exsisting realtek Installation Drivers or S/B Audigy if I install it to replace the Realtek.

And what affect if any would this have on other applications?

is there any know conflicts caused by these Drivers?

Mind you this Depends if the Realtec is the cause of the Latency.

I have seen two reviews blaming the ASM7 software for not being
able to reconize the Latency timing to compensate, and no patch to fix any time soon.

Any Advice or information anyone can give I would be most grateful
not to mention some what relieved.

Thanks All the Best
Chris108

What you're getting is normal for what you are doing/using. To get low latency, you need 'special' low latency drivers, and suitable hardware...(ASIO)

The good news - get ASIOFORALL (free, google it). Install it, and then select that as your output device type in AMS7. YOur latency should then read about 10ms, (you could easily get less with tweaking)

I'm not a fan of SB stuff - so unless you need the inputs, I wouldn't use it. The realtek stuff is pretty good all things considered.

Install the Audigy and then install the ASIO drivers for it.

You will need to set your projects to 48 kHz to use the SB ASIO drivers, but your problems will go away.
