Subject:pops in mp3 playback

I just recently began having this very strange problem.
When saving a wav file as an mp3, regardless of whether
it's 24k, 56k, 128k . . . I start hearing clicks and pops
in playback. There don't seem to be any anomolies in the
file graphic but there seems to be recurring pops about
every half second or so.

Now here's where it gets strange. I send the mp3 file to my
other pc and play it through RealPlayer and there are no
clicks and pops at all.

But wait, it gets even stranger:

I saved some wav files as mp3s yesterday, without any
problems and copied them over to my other pc. When I opened
original mp3s at the start of the day, they were clicking
and popping like mad. So, I copy the files from my other pc
over to the original pc and they sound just fine. No
clicks. No pops.

I'm perplexed.

The pc with the problems is a brand new PIII 700 mhz, ASUS
P3V45X mobo,256 megs of ram, Sonorus, STUDI/O audio card,
with 2 15 gig Maxtor 40 hard drives.

If anyone has experienced similar problems or if anyone
knows what might be causing this phenomenon, I'd appreciate
any help you might be able to offer.

Thanks . . PC
