Hello Garry.

Most sound cards come with multiple inputs from which you can record
sound. These may include microphone, CD, auxiliary, MIDI, and line
inputs. Although some cards record from all of these inputs at the
same time, many cards make you choose which device is currently your
record device (also known as the input source). These cards come with
software which allows you to pick which device is the input source.
You will need to refer to your sound card manual to determine how to
set the input source.

Most sound cards also come with some kind of application which
controls the input level of the recording device. You may need to
increase the level of your input sources in order to record from
them. Again, you will need to refer to your sound card manual to
learn how to adjust these levels.

You'll have to determine which mixer program your soundcard is using,
and then from in that mixing program, you will be able to select the
input.

Thanks!

Here's the trick...there are two ways to do this...

First way:

-Double click on the Little yellow speaker down in the lower right
corner of your screen (should be next to clock/time display in the
system tray). This should bring up a mixer of some kind. It will
most likely have a grey face with sliders and checkboxes. THIS IS
NOT THE RECORDING MIXER....this is the playback mixer. It ONLY
affects sounds playing back through your speakers.

-Go to the Options menu in the upper left corner of this mixer window.

-Choose Properties. This should open up a new window. Inside it you
should see a 'dot' next to the word "Playback" and an empyt circle
next to the word "Recording".

-Click on the empty circle next to "recording" and the 'dot' should
then move into the circle next to "recording" and disappear
from "Playback".

-now in the white box near the bottom of this little window
called "Show the Following Volume Controls" make sure everything has
a Checkmark next. If it doesn't click the little boxes on the left
of the names to put checkmarks next to everything.

-Click OK

-You are now in the Recording control mixer. This controls from
where and how loud sound comes into your computer. Locate the 'Line-
In' channel. At the bottom of this channel (underneath the volume
slider) there should be a checkbox of some kind. It may either
say 'Mute' or 'Select' or something along those lines.

-If it says mute, make sure it is UNCHECKED. if it says select, make
sure it is CHECKED

-You should now be able to record sound from Line-In.

Second Way:

- go to Control Panel

-Choose MultiMedia

-Under the Audio Tab, look for the "Recording" section.

-inside the recording section you should see a big button with a
picture of some sort of microphone on it. Click on it.

Hope this helps...
