Subject:Breaking down a conversation

What Im trying to do here is take a conversation
recorded in stereo, where one person speaks in the left
channel, and the other speaks in the right. What I need to
do it find a way to take each line of the conversation, and
put it in its own mono file. Until now I have been just
highlighting the piece, pasting to new, and saving it, but
this is just too time consuming. I've been experimenting
with the auto-region function and it works to an extent,
but even if I go in and touch it up manually, I still have
to select, paste to new, and save each file seperately. So
in a nutshell my question is: Is there an easy way to make
the regions of the file into their own seperate files? Or
does anyone know of an even better way to break these files
down than using auto-region? If not, is there another
Sonic Foundry program that is better suited to this kind of
job? Thanks in advance for ANY info.

You're on the good track with the region thingy...

Do the following:

1 Create regions of the audio you wish to use (don't pan anything,
we'll get to that)
2 Use Extract Regions (in the Tools menu I believe) to extract the
regions to seperate wavefiles in a specified dir (which is
exactly what you want if I understand you correctly.)
3 Open SF's Batch Converter and add the new wavefiles.
4 In BC, you can set an option to make a stereo sample mono (I
believe it is the Channel Converter option in the Tool(?) menu)

Now that you've done that, you can recreate the conversation by either
mixing the mono wavefiles in a new stereo track, or better yet, get
ACID and use that to freak around with. ;-)

Good luck
