Best way to breakup a long AVI file?

I want to break up a long avi file to deliver on DVD data disk.
I split the file using "S" command , selected each region and rendered as AVI using the original clips properties.

But it seems to be rendering longer than it should be making me think I am somehow not preserving the original quality.

Is there a simple way to break the clip up and save the pieces without a render?
Or a way to tell VV to just use the clips original settings?
thanks

You're doing it right, but which avi template are you rendering to? Did you put any filters on the media?
Track header at full opacity? Any filters on the track? On master bus?
Render should be very, very fast.

Thanks SPOT, I Just noticed I forgot to turn off the Master Buss Audio Audio effects. Maybe thats it.

I just pulled the AVI into vegas , split the file into three clips (songs) ,turned off the audio channel effects, (forgot the Master buss effects), got the clip properties from the media bay and selected the template that matched.
NTSC DV.

I try the next one without the Master buss effects and see if that speeds it up.

thanks
