Hi, I have a registred sound forge 4.0a.(full vers) Few days ago i downloaded SF4.5XP (light) for a friend of mine. Since this time in my SF4.0 formats types (in save as ...) i have a new format:MP layer 3. if i use it, SF4.0 saves my waves files in MP3 format with only 2 problems 1: I need to change .wav extension with .mp3 in the file name 2: encoding quality is limited to 24000Khz/56Kbs So my conclusion is SF4.0 is able to read (and save MP3 files). Here is my question I Want to buy the MP3 plug-in (Fraunhofer copyright) but i don't want to pay $100 to SF4.5 upgrade because now i know SF4.0 can read/save MP3 contrary to what you told me in an e-mail and the only thing i need to my SF4.0 is the MP3 plugin (without bitrate limitations). What must i do ???? I hope a sincere response Regards VINCENT |

Hello. Sound Forge 4.0 can access all of the codecs on your system, however, that doesn't mean they will always work properly. Unfortunately, like you state, MP3 compression can be applied in a .WAV file (as opposed to PCM) however it only saves in one format. There is no way from 4.0 to properly save MP3 files, but 4.5 can, and I would assume this is what our Customer Service department meant in the email. If you would like to upgrade to the 4.5 version, you could give our sales department a call at 1-800-57SONIC extension #3. Thanks Vincent! vincent wrote: >>Hi, >> >>I have a registred sound forge 4.0a.(full vers) >>Few days ago i downloaded SF4.5XP (light) for >>a friend of mine. Hello, Ok, but what i don't understand is why the 4.5 upgrade doesn't include MP3 encoding, i must pay $100 for an upgrade and i can't save in MP3 i must pay $20 more to save a mp3 file... Do you think it's a good policy? I think i would be more correct to include all possibility in one upgrade. What is the interest to have a sound editor which opens edits and which can't save a file .... Do you think next upgrade will include MP3 encoding copyright ?
