Subject:SF 9 Isotope plugs vs Ozone 3 ??

Hello,
Could someone tell me the difference is (in detail) between what you get with the SF9 Isotope bundle and Osone 3 ?
There seem to be different descriptions etc.
Also, are these "light" versions? and if so what are the limitations.
Basically I am debating between buying Ozone 3 and Upgrading from SF8 to SF9.
Another quick question... The plugins seem to be a somewhat cheap Green led color on a very dark background. Is this adjustable.
Thank you,
Al

"The plugins seem to be a somewhat cheap " ???

Hardly. They're excellent, and don't play about with trying to look amazing, but do nothing. The UI is great, and very intuitive when working with plugs, such as the mastering compressor.

But if you don't like the look of them, then don't bother with Ozone 3, as it is even more green on a very dark background...

Benefits of Ozone 3 over the MEB = ability to use the plugs outside of Sony, if you use DX or VST able apps.

Sound quality on everything iZotope is excellent, be it Ozone or the MEB. (or trash, spectron, Rx etc)

Consider the MEB to be 4/6th of Ozone in terms of available functions. As for limitations - ony you, as the end user.
With MEB you get reverb, limiter, compressor and EQ
With Ozone, you essentially get that plus harmonic exciter and control over the stereo imaging.

The MEB collection in SF9 is superb, and a very welcome addition, beaten only by the full Ozone itself.

Thank you,
What is "MEB"?

I understand that you cannot use the "bundle" outside of SF9. So my question would be for the extra $50, would it be better to buy the full Ozone 3, get the extra 2 plugs and be able to use it in Sonar and in SF8 ??
What are your thoughts.
Thanks,
Al

MEB = mastering effects bundle (ie, the included plugs in SF9)

I'd probably go with Ozone - but very much depending on what you're doing, and how you're working. Also, if you're running Sonar in 64bit, then Ozone will run as 64bit native plug.

(I'd miss too many of the features in v9, to go back to 8, but then again I have both v9 and Ozone..)

At end of the day - I would look at the feature set between SF8 and SF9 - and see if there are enough reasons for you to upgrade based on how you work. The MEB is a great reason to upgrade, but certainly not the only one.

Thanks,
I am needing to upgrade my Sonar app. as well and it comes with some nice plugs so I am really stuck now !!!!!
I will probably break down and get Sonar 7 and Ozone because like you stated, it will have the best impact on what I do and I am not really running SF8 to any limitation.
What do you use, if you don't mind me asking.
Thank you,
Al

What do I use?

To try and cover that answer...
I use Vegas Pro 8, SF9. CDA, DVDA, Cinescore, Acid, Nuendo 4, Cubase 4, iZotope plugs, and th MEB. Various VST instruments, and other odds&sods

I need to upgrade (sonar) and realized that SF had gone to version 9
I was just looking to maximize and augment my current arsenal of plugs, but I try and look for bundles that make sense for me.
My upgrade from Sonar 5 to 7 should suit my needs very well, as it has some serious feature upgrades as well as some nice plugs.
I just have always had my eyes on the Ozone stuff and since I have SF8 I thought it looked like a good deal, but as I look at the diff between 8 &9 I don't see much that would benefit me. Seems like alot of surround stuff that I don't use.
I think my best bet is to go for Sonar 7 and save for the Ozone plugs or something else later.
Thank you,
Al

The included Izotope bundle is well worth the upgrade. I have had success in getting the plug-ins to work in Sony Acid and other products. The multi-band compressor is pretty much the same as what's included in Adobe Audition (since 2.0). My original purpose was to use this within Acid since I was processing audio files in Audition with the same plug-in them importing them over. The plug-in gave me some latency issues and the tools are limited in scope so I soon migrated to Ozone 3 which is 500x better. If you are just starting out the bundle is a good tool to play with, especially if you don't want to shell out $249. But, one you download the demo of Ozone 3 you'll wonder how you lived without it. Just make sure you migrate past the presets.
