Subject:Slow due to pauses

I have a top notch system (description below) but my SF is
still slow! I have bursts of processing, then huge pauses
in between. I checked the pagefile and it doesn't even
grow so I assume SF doesn't use v-ram that much. Even my
ram is not used during these intense calculations. I know
that SF is a hard drive based system but my cheetah has 5ms
access and my 2940u2w has 80MB transfer rates! I cannot
understand what the problem could be.
Been told video card (being PCI and not AGP) could cause
problems. Any recomendations for a good AGP (PC runs only
SF and Cubase) would be greatly appreciated also.
Thanks,

There are some discussions about video bogging down a system in the
Vegas forum but I'll save you the trouble and summarize.

Video performance is directly affects audio performance. Although the
two aren't related they are competing for the same resources so if
your video lags your audio will lag. I learned this first hand on my
first system PII233, 5400RPM, 128MB, and a Gina card. I couldn't run
anything with the wave display at anything larger than a sliver
without audio dropping out or stuttering. Switched from my Diamond
Stealth 2000 PCI to an AGP card and all my problems went away.

Others (yourself included) have apparently had the same problem with
larger, faster systems. Slow video cards have crippled several people
in the Vegas world and switching to a better card has solved the
problem. The reigning champ of video cards seems to be the Matrox
G400 AGP with 32MB. I've got one in my current system and have had no
problems at all. Others have switched to this card and raved about
the improved performance.

To make a long winded story short GET A NEW VIDEO CARD.
