Hi all

I am using Acid Pro (still on v4!) - have done much recording recently and down to last 10Gb on 120gig Hard drive. (I record onto D, run programs etc off C). Therefore decided to move some old files onto an external drive to free up space. I then defragged the D drive.

Turned the PC back on last night and, hey presto, the soundcard isn't recognised. No sound in or out! It's an Audiophile 2496 internal card which has been working fine for 3 years. I have found the original setup disk but even putting this in, no joy. I have downloaded different drivers from maudio site but these not working either.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with this card? Why would defragging have done this?

N.B. It's not just Acid, Wiondows Media Player won't play anything back either....

Any advice extremely welcome.

Cheers

seems very unlikely that a mere defrag would have caused this problem. you have already tried to re-install the drivers i see. but did you uninstall the old ones first?

also, if you check the Device Manager, is the soundcard listed there?

you can always try removing the card from the pci slot, putting it back and then see if Windows detects it.

Thanks for the advice. Very helpful. I ended up downloading older versions of the drivers/software from maudio website. It seems the more recent versions don't work on my system. All very strange, but at least it works again now!
Cheers
