Hi Aaron, There are several ways this is done....the easiest which is also the hardest to get is to call the person who originally recorded the song and get a copy of that one track without anything else mixed in. That not being an option leads us to using EQ. Unless there is some program I don't know of that does all this for you, you will have to play with an eq to try and remove most of the music going on around the voice. Try using parametric eqs and/or a very big graphic eqs (30 bands or higher). While you will never be able to get the voice itself to have no music behind it, you can shape the eq of the voice so that the frequencies in the voice stand out why the frequencies of the music are masked by the other sounds in your song. I did this with the snare drum sound from Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith". I love the snare in that song but their really are no spots where it is by itself....So I found a spot in the song where their were the least amount of instruments playing (in the verse) and I sampled that slice of the song. I then figured out that the snare sound was mainly around 2300Hz and a little around 600Hz and 4100Hz. So I cut everything else out with EQs and then boosted those frequencies a little. When I listened to the snare hit by itself I could still hear the music in the background...but when I played the snare hit within my song, I couldn't notice the the music within it. All I could hear was the snare and the rest of my song playing along with it. Because of a the masking properties sound can have, you don't have to try and get rid of all the music behind the voice. Just EQ it enough so that the voice stands out and all the other music will be masked by the music you are playing on top of it. To hear some examples of what I am talking about, go to http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/64/kelie1.html and listen to the song "Close My Eyes". I did the drum tracks for it and I took drum sounds off tons of different CDs for that song. But you would never know from just listening to it. Hope this helps Aaron Jenkin wrote: >>hey guys, how do you take out certain parts of a mp3 >>converted to wav file in sound forge? i want to take out >>someones voice in a song and put it to my own beats, any >>help would be greatly apprieciated. >> Aaron |
