FWIW,
Everything was fine, for years, then installed Preset Manager, and now Wave Hammer is in Demo (BEEP) mode.

I uninstalled Preset Manager, restarted, then repaired SF7b. neither solved the issue.

I uninstalled SF7b, restarted, installed SF7b, now Wave Hammer is back to normal.

I just went through the same process after migrating from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Only difference was I installed from SF 7.0 disk, then applied the upgrade to 7.0b. Wave Hammer was fine in 7.0, then in demo mode in 7.0b. I uninstalled entirely, rebooted, and reinstalled from the 7.0b upgrade installer, and now WH is back to normal. Nice waste of an hour or two...
